UWT Gaza Emergency Appeal

On 14th November 2012, another assault by occupiers began on Palestinians in Gaza. Aerial bombings are pounding residential areas across Gaza once more. Over a hundred Palestinians have been martyred and hundreds more injured.

Today's attack on Muslims in Gaza is merely symptom of a wider oppression that has taken place on our Palestinian brethren for decades. 80% of Gazans are in fact refugees who were expelled from lands that are now launching pads for assaults against them.

They are imprisoned behind impenetrable concrete walls, humiliating military checkpoints and economic sanctions. The recent bombings bring echoes of the brutal Cast Lead operation in 2009 when 1,500 Palestinians were martyred in just a few days.

Ummah Welfare Trust has an established base in Gaza from where it has administered relief efforts for many years alhamdulillah. The charity currently looks after orphans, sponsors students to become Huffadh of the Qur'an, installs generators in schools and hospitals and transports desalinated water to refugee camps.

Death is Everywhere

Alhamdulillah, the air strikes and attacks on Gaza have stopped. There is now a ceasefire

Yesterday, I visited homes and institutions that had been completely destroyed. They were terrible sights - four-story houses and huge buildings had been decimated.

You can still smell the odour of bombs in the streets of Gaza.

We visited the house of Abu Zour. There was complete destruction surrounding his house. We also visited Ahed Al-Qatati’s home. Ahed himself was killed in an air strike targeting Abu Zour’s home.

We met Ahed’s widowed wife and his children. I asked his daughter, who is 10 years old, about what happened.

She cried, telling me that she heard bomb besides her house. Her father went outside to check on the injured. Suddenly air strikes attacking Abu Zour’s family missed their target and killed her father.

Ahed’s wife is still in shock. She is 6th months pregnant. Her child will come into this world never having seen his father.

Hamdy Al-Qataty’s family is very poor. We also visited him family during our tour. His family is like one of thousands in Gaza now who have lost relatives in the bombings.

We promised all the families we met that Ummah Welfare Trust will keep aiding them and the people of Gaza inshaAllah.
